A policy on comments: Please use comments to further the effectiveness of the posts. For instance, you might ask a question which you don’t see answered by the post as it currently stands, or you might point out a flaw in reasoning.

Regarding the author: I’m called Hacksaw in most circles. I’ve been thinking for a long time. I’m not going to bother talking about my credentials because I don’t have any with respect to this topic, save for the fact that I’ve been living for a pretty long time, and I’m reasonably smart. It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that the words we boil down here stand on their own. If they don’t stand up on their own, they aren’t useful.
